Can we DO GOOD BETTER?

Be part of the Effective Altruism community.

Effective altruism is an ongoing research field that aims to find the best ways of having a social impact, guided by the use of evidence and careful reasoning.

This is also a global movement — a community of people who care deeply about the world and make benefiting others a significant part of their lives. We try to figure out how best to do so and act on it through our giving, career, research and other ways of engagement.

Taking an effective altruism approach

There are so many causes that we can choose to work on. Taking a step back to think about your focus areas can lead you to discover areas you had not considered. These are cause areas that affect a lot of individuals (large in scale), lack resources (neglected) but can be potentially impactful (solvable) if you choose to focus on them.

Making a difference through your career

Most of us would spend around 80,000 hours of our life at work. Have you thought about how you can use your career to help solve the world’s most pressing problems? Learn about what you can potentially do to help present and future generations.

Giving better and giving more

Most of us who are living in Singapore have the ability to give. Our community consists of many who pledge to donate more and to organisations that have been found to be highly effective in their interventions, such as saving lives. You might be able to create a lot more impact through your giving than you realise.

“We can see that by thinking carefully and by focusing on those problems that are big, solvable and neglected, we can make a truly tremendous difference to the world.”

— Will MacAskill, Associate Professor in Philosophy at Lincoln College, Oxford
